If you hold both K-ETA and a valid Residence Card (or Overseas Korean Resident Card) when you enter South korea, you are firstly granted the status of stay and period of stay according to your Residence Card (or Overseas Korean Resident Card).
Based on the Article 37-1 of the Immigration Control Act, you can enter the country via K-ETA only if you had returned your Residence Card (or Overseas Korean Resident Card) to the immigration control official when you exited South korea in the past or if you return your card at the moment of entry.

Please note that if you hold a valid visa, you are firstly granted the status of stay and period of stay according to your visa (regardless of your possessing K-ETA).

K-ETA can be nullified or revoked at any time if it is found that 1) application does not meet the assessment criteria based on Article 8-3 of the Enforcement Decree of the Immigration Control Act, 2) application is submitted with false information, 3) any significant information is omitted, 4) the information on K-ETA approval does not match the passport bio-page, or 5) there is any other reasons for nullification.

A

Once the application is submitted, you cannot edit your passport number, nationality, gender and other personal information. Therefore, you must re-apply for K-ETA with the correct personal information.
Even if you have K-ETA approval, you may not be able to board the plane/ship or enter the country if there are any discrepancies between K-ETA and passport information.

The dual citizenship holders are required to present their Korean passport for immigration inspection when they enter or exit the Republic of Korea since they are not allowed to exercise the foreign nationality in the Republic of Korea.

Therefore, Korean citizens who have dual nationality are required to present the Korean passport at the immigration control and they do not need to apply for K-ETA.

In addition, they need to present both of the passports to get the boarding pass at the airline counter. However, the airline might reject to issue the boarding pass for not having valid K-ETA if there is any discrepancy in personal information written on the passport bio page (such as name or date of birth) between Korean passport and alternate country’s passport or for any other reasons. We recommend you to check this matter with the airline in advance.

Lastly, for those who do not have Korean passport, please apply it at the nearest Korean Embassy or Consulate and enter Korea with the passport.

A

The eligibility of the K-ETA application depends on the nationality stated on the bio page of the passport, not on the country of residence or departure. Therefore, if you are a national of a country where visa-free entry is not allowed, you cannot apply for K-ETA.
